There's no surprise, I can't surprise you anymore. I'm top-tote. You expect everything
from me. Well, actually I could surprise you but in ways that would make you pissed.
Give me an example then. I could whip around and stab you square in the chest.
Not a surprise anymore. Damn, you're right.
Huh? The paper?
What's wrong?
Tamara says nothing. I see her eyes bounce side to side as she reads through it. I can
tell as her eyes widen and breathing ceases. She does not like what she's reading. The
funny thing is, I don't even need to ask to know what it is about.
Why? Why can't they just leave alone?
Haven't we been punished enough? How bad do we have to feel?
Poor Tamara. Beneath her coating of hair, she's shuddering, breaking down. I've rarely
seen her like this. I know she tries to stay strong, but I also know she has her limits,
as we all do. And the worst of it is, the answer to her question is not something we
should like. The answer is no. To them, we'll never be punished enough.
They will never let us be. The best we can hope for is that they forget. That is the
closest thing to forgiveness people can get now.
